About The Festival

Preserving culture, tradition, and music across Interior Alaska

Established in 1984, the Athabascan Music Festival brings together elders, village bands, youth, and music lovers from across Alaska to celebrate centuries of cultural tradition. Rooted in traditional Athabascan old-time fiddling and cultural dancing, this gathering offers three days of live music, fellowship, and family fun.

For 44 years, the Athabascan Music Festival has been much more than a series of concerts. Drawing 300 to 400 people each night, it is a sober, family-centered sanctuary where generations gather under one roof to dance, share healthy cultural food, and honor our ancestors through cultural events and original language songs.

Through this vibrant cultural gathering, young artists build identity, confidence, and pride by passing down traditions and performing original language songs for the whole community.

"It’s a powerful thing when we come together. It strengthens our heritage, grounds our youth, and restores our community."

When you underwrite the festival, your impact reaches far beyond the venue walls. With live radio broadcasts covering the entire Interior and Facebook Live streams all three days, your sponsorship is heard across Alaskaβ€”and documented forever so future generations can look back and celebrate their roots.
